ABSTRACT

Earthen constructions represent an interesting and important architectural heritage, whose conservation is

necessary in order to make possible the transmission of a technological culture which keeps values of the

uniquenessofthelandscapeaswellasofitshistory.

There are numerous archaeological sites characterized by the presence of earthen construction. The

preservation of this heritage presents many difficulties due to several factors. Often, especially in the past,

the excavations were not followed by actions aimed at ensuring the preservation of archaeological remains.

Earthen constructions were damaged, and sometimes are still nowadays, by natural factors (water, wind, ecc)

and anthropogenic factors (neglect, vandalism, war, tourism, etc..). Interventions of protection, and even

restoration,havealsosometimesaffectedearthenremainsdestroyingthevalueofauthenticityofthesites.

Therefore it is absolutely necessary to plan the future of archaeological sites by providing a careful study of

the state of preservation of the earthen remains and to make a careful analysis of their possible degradation
