Abstract. The essay presents the results of researches concerning the so called ex-Monastero dei SS.

Faustino e Giovita in Isola Comacina. The building incorporates a thirteenth-century church, later

converted into stable. According to the tradition, the whole island was destroyed in 1169, and

abandoned by its inhabitants, but the archaeological excavations data and the stratigraphic and

stylistic analysis describe a different story, although attempts to date the mortars using 14C did not

give significant results. This paper also illustrates the recent intervention of conservation and reuse

to insert the building in the new archaeological path of the island.
