ABSTRACT

The intention of recovery of the ancient brick kiln in the Tenuta di Sticciano for purpose of historical

documentation and didactic fruition as evidence of a site of industrial archaeology, was the occasion for a

stratigraphicandarchaeometricresearch,preliminarytorestoration.

The study enabled us to obtain important information on the constructive phases of the kiln, operative

conditionsandalsotocontextualizetheproductionactivityandthemarkettowhichitwasaddressed.

The analysis of materials taken from this complex permitted to reveal the nature of a protective coating of

brick facings of the firing chamber, confirmed that the plant produced lime together with the bricks, and that
