ABSTRACT

Since July 2007, the Valencian Institute of Conservation and Restoration (IVC+R) is developing a

conservation and investigation project on the mural paintings of Arianna’s house, within the project for the

archaeological excavations in the Arianna’s house in Pompeii, with the funding of the Spanish Ministry of

Culture.

The aim of all this work is to understand and control all the natural and human factors that have a definitive

impact on the painting conservation in order to protect the paintings and to develop a global preservation

system.

Themethodologyconsistedinseveraldifferentphasesofwork:

1.- Scientific studies to identify the deterioration processes, constitutive materials characterization and

determination of their state of conservation and also the interaction with materials of restorations carried out

in the past(materials and installed covers); 2 to determinate the behavior of the traditional and last

generation conservation materials in order to achieve the maximum quality in a conservative intervention

(in situ and laboratory tests with the funding of the I+D Proyect HAR2010-21455) 3 Development of a
