ABSTRACT

Subsequently the archaeological excavation, the ancient evidence must be kept and presented for public use

in the most appropriate and most compatible. Interventions of enhancement and use must be aimed the

correct presentation of the archaeological site as a whole, in respect of their age, of their aesthetics and their

conservation.Thelackoftheseassumptionscausesseriousdamage.

The aim of this work is to expose two cases, different but with similar conservation problems caused by the

lack of conservation and public interest: the archaeological site in Scifi, a small town in the province of

Messina, and the medieval walls in Randazzo, medieval village on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in the

province of Catania. The first site was the subject of several excavation campaigns during which various

architectural remains have been found dating back to late antiquity, even today, however, been abandoned

and unappreciated. This action has led to the progressive deterioration of the site caused by the weather and

the ever-present natural vegetation and weed. The second case, the discovery of which is to be understood as

the recognition of the “value” culture, is incorporated into the urban plan without any identity of its own and

noenhancement.

These are two negative examples, not the only ones in Italy, where the lack of multidisciplinary vision and
