ABSTRACT

The discovery and excavation of the archaeological area of Albintimilium, in the western part of Liguria

coincided with the growth of the modern town, following the construction of the railway, in the same areas

where the relics of the ancient city laid. This has jeopardized the vestiges and has reduced their potential of

being interpreted for the enjoyment and the education of the public. However, recent plans of relocation for

infrastructure and strategic services, along with several projects for the rehabilitation of the western coastal

areas, has opened up to possibilities of enhancement for the archaeological area and other important roman

sites located along a tourist cycling path running on the old railway track and connecting some of the most

renown tourist coastal locations in western Liguria. This provides for the opportunity to restructure previous

projects for the valorisation of the relics and to develop a wider, ambitious programme for the creation of a

polycentric archaeological park which would connect these fragmented excavated sites for their more

effective management and interpretation for the public, in coordination with other projects elaborated by

otherterritorialadministrativebodies.
