ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the role played by architecture particularly in the field of heritage and archaeology,

which constitutes of a framework of questions about the role of the project which is often marginal in the

currentformsofinnovationadoptedinthemanagement,developmentandpromotionofculturalheritage.

The paper, aware of the important relationship between architectural design and archaeology, wants to focus

on the role that design has as a tool for a territory and for the interpretation of archaeological ruins in their

cultural,socialandlandscapecontext.

Architecture, Archaeology and Landscape is the international workshop at its third edition born from the

collaboration between the Università di Roma Tre (Italy), the Universidad de Valladolid (Spain) and the

UniversidadedoPorto(Portugal).

It is an interdisciplinary educational experience that comes from the discovery of a common background and

thebirthofanopenandprofitablediscussionbetweenseveralEuropeanresearchteams.

The text shows the third experience Cavallino 2012 where design scenarios, because of a cultural

commitment, integrated and multi-disciplinary, and through international experience born inside European

university system are able to be investigated and to compare strategies for the possible enhancement of

culturalheritage.
