Abstract

Scientific research on the specific theme of the restoration of architectural surfaces, considered as "the material structure which more than any other architectural part affects the formal appreciation", shows a strong growth towards the testing of highly controllable, gradual and selective methods and technologies mostly made from natural sources, therefore bio-compatible in the respect of environmental sustainability. It follows, therefore, the necessity to confront these themes in order to evaluate, in a comprehensive manner and most wide-ranging, their real potential. Outlined in these notes is the contribution of the most recent scientific research on the techniques and products for cleaning and consolidation of architectural surfaces, through experimental studies and case studies.
