ABSTRACT

The text aims to illustrate that an intervention on buildings that wants to combine energy efficiency with the protection of historical-architectural goods must necessarily pass through the recognition of the cultural good as a non-renewable resource for which the maximization of the material storage becomes the primary objective in the process of the safeguard of the value of authenticity. Starting from the qualified contributions which have now demonstrated the substantial convergence of interests and purposes between the integrated conservation culture and the sustainable approach to construction in terms of assessing the compatibility of the materials and constructions solutions with cultural values the text addresses the issue of the relationship between conservation and sustainability in neighborhoods planting Norman the historic center of Piazza Armerina consisting mostly of building so-called “minor”. They first identified the criteria and methodologies to address the issue of energy efficiency of existing buildings and subsequently verified in the light of the results of instrumental analysis. The development of some scenarios of intervention and the subsequent comparison with the state of affairs in the application of systems to improve energy, is the first step in the preparation of a framework of reference addresses, due to “guidelines” aimed at reconcile the reasons for the preservation of ancient contexts with those of sustainability.

Key-words: Cultural values, historical building, integrated conservation, sustainable restoration, energy improvement.
