As part of the restoration work at the Punta della Dogana in Venice, for the construction of the center for contemporary art of the François Pinault Foundation, it was also performed a restoration of the sculptural group called "Fortuna da Mar" at the end of the “Punta della Dogana”.

The complex consists of two atlases supporting the world represented by the "golden sphere" on top of which is placed the sculpture called “Fortuna da Mar” (The sailor's luck) or according to some "Occasio"

This report shows the steps of intervention which have affected more properly aspects of structural support systems and the internal structure of the golden ball, as refers an another article in this volume (see. Tonini and others) for what concerns interventions related to sculptural surfaces.

Key words: metal structure; forged iron; traditional skill, Pinault Fundation.
