The issues coming to light during the conservative renovation are solved thanks to the knowledge of innovative materials which answer positively to impasse situations when project contradictions are coming up. The knowledge of glass and metals allowed to find a definitive solution to a complicated problem arising from a long project phase and difficult refurbishment of Villa Barbarich (Venice). The villa is the fruit of a contorted architectural and decorative adventure, for the duration and the insistence on the territory, from siegle XIV to XX, and for the alternation of usufructuary tenants. The architecture has been realized with continuous restoration projects in the time, while the decorative cycle is unique, uniform and congruent, even if the work by the Veronese is reported starting from the 1582-1602. The excursus is necessary to understand the contradictory issues raised during the first project, where the stratigraphies led to put forward an exceptional request to add, on the roof of a rustic building, a volume beyond the eaves line, to reach the upper part of the villa without destroying parts of the fresco painting works. The solution was elaborated after experimenting the creation of a transparent crystal envelope and the integration of a special metal alloy weave in the crystal package. The result is a clear volume, reversibile. The renovation work is contemporary, realized with classic materials, but with a modern shape, and lets the inside functions be visible.
